DEPARTMENT OF BODO
Faculty profile– (adequacy and competency of faculty): Bodo department started in the intermediate level in 1982 and in the undergraduate level in 1984. The introduction to the subject in the intermediate level was necessitated by the long-standing demand of the student community in the region. Since Bodo was not offered as a subject in the Post Graduate level then, there was no qualified teacher to take the Bodo classes. The College in order to fulfill the utmost need of the academic community, appointed Mr. Mahesh Islary, an MA in Philosophy and a noted scholar in Bodo literature to take the Bodo classes.

Since then, the department grew both in terms of popularity among students and the departmental resourcefulness. Elective Bodo was introduced in the College in the undergraduate level in 1999 and it is still running successfully. In 2007, Advanced Bodo was introduced as a subject in the intermediate level. The department went full circle in 2007 when Major was offered in Bodo in 2007, but the department had its teething troubles as it was depleted with only two permanent teachers running the Major course. The performance in the university examinations of departmental students is satisfactory to say the least. The department has now strength of five permanent teachers and efforts are being made concertedly to make it a model department in the lower Assam region.
