DEPARTMENT OF BBA
 
PREFACE: The BBA (Three Year Degree Course) includes six semesters, which was started from the session 2008-09, under Gauhati University. There are six examinations, one at the end of each semester. The duration of the semester is as below –
 
First, Third and Fith Semester-July to December; Second, Fourth and Sixth Semester-January to June each year. The Department of Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) is a new wing in the College, which is the out come of the sole effort of our existing principal sir Dr. H.C.Das. The College has placed an appeal to the Academic Registrar of the G.U. to start the BBA course in the College, vide Resolution No. 28, dt 01/10/2007, consequently the College has got the permission to start the BBA course as a full time three year degree course under the Gauhati University on 02-06-2008 vide. the memo No. E.C. Resolution No.2008/8(5)/102(11), dated 02/06/2008 from the session 2008-2009.

The first batch of the course was enrolled with thirteen numbers of students. Though there were thirteen students only eleven students appeared in the First Semester examination which was held from 28th January 2009 to 3rd February 2009. the result of the said examination was declared in the month of November 2009, where the result was not up to the expectation, but for re-examination of the said papers have been applied to the University, unfortunately till today no result has been come out from the university side. This batch of the students has appeared in the fourth semester. In the second semester all the students successfully complete the course, except two students have arrear in one subject each. The result of the third semester is awaited.

The second batch of the course was started with nine students for the session 2009-2010. Out of the nine students only seven students appeared in the first semester examination.

The Department has three contractual lecturers serving satisfactorily since appointment. Senior other permanent lecturer from the Commerce, English, Education, Economics and Maths departments are also hired as visiting lecturer to take some important classes. Mr. P.C.Kalita an Assistant Professor of the Commerce Department of the College is working as a Co-ordinator of the BBA department.

The department is running without a permanent teacher, therefore, the dept. needs adequate numbers of permanent teachers and office staff as early as possible.

Admission policy.
 
The intake capacity of the department, particularly for Major (honours) students in degree programme is decided by the college administration. Thirty students can be enrolled in major classes as per the present admission policy of the College. The department enrolls the candidates for such course on the basis of the academic weightage scored by the applicant on the basis of their aggregate marks, marks in Economics or marks in mathematics secured at the intermediate level. The cut-off percentage of such weight is 40% for our department. In case the number of eligible candidates exceeds the intake capacity, the department has the provision of conducting entrance test for selecting the qualified candidates for such enrollment in TDC 1st year classes.
 
No. of students in the department during the current year:
Bongaigaon College is affiliated to Gauhati University. Hence it undertakes the courses designed by the University for undergraduate Programmes for Arts and Commerce streams. However, the faculty members design their respective teaching plan and syllabus split up for the whole session confirming to the Departmental academic calendar. The University has changed the syllabi of Education for TDC classes in the year 2003.
