DEPARTMENT OF MASS COMMUNICATION

The subject Mass Communication and Journalism has been introduced in the college since last year, 2009, Session 2009-10. Although it has been introduced as a three year full time Bachelor Degree Course, it also facilitates One Year Certificate Course, Two Years Diploma Course in Mass Communication and Journalism. The institution is located in Bongaigaon District bordering Districts of Chirang, Kokrajhar, Goalpara Barpeta, and Dhubri. The region comprising these districts is an underdeveloped one. To impart quality education in communication and informative issues to the students with various socio-economic backgrounds is an impending need. It will be pertinent here to note that information flow has become one of the key issues for a developing nation like India. To create a socially aware class of students equipped with knowledge of state of the art method and technologies of information and communication in this underdeveloped region is the sole prerogative of the Department of Mass Communication. The Department would prefer to make Developmental Communication and its application its thrust area. It will also initiate actions to popularize and create awareness on Right to Information Act 2005.

1. Faculty Profile-adequacy and competency of faculty.

The Department has Sri Harendra Ch. Chakravarty , Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Political Science as its Coordinator . There are two contractual lecturers serving satisfactorily. Senior permanent lecturers from other departments are also hired to teach Communicative English and Environmental Studies. From this year onward the Dept. will invite people from the industry to interact with the students so that they can feel the pulse of the practical field.

However , it can be assumed that such makeshift ways however productive at present, will not be fruitful for the increasing number of students in the future years. So the Dept. needs adequate number of permanent faculties and permission for sanctioned posts as early as possible.
